Abstract

Utilizing input-output (IO) tables to compute backward and forward linkage indices for the period 2000–2019, this study reveals general trends in sectors with development advantages as governments implement demand stimulus and investment policies. Additionally, developing countries should prioritize further demand stimulation in the following sectors: Rubber and Plastic Products, Electrical Equipment, Other Manufacturing, and Machinery Repair/Installation. Developed countries, meanwhile, should focus on stimulating sectors such as Textiles, Apparel, Leather, and Footwear to generate spillover effects within their economies. Furthermore, investment policies should emphasize: For developing countries: Agriculture, Hunting, Forestry; Coke and Refined Petroleum Products; Chemicals and Chemical Products. For developed countries: Construction; Administrative and Support Services. Notably, sectors demonstrating strong backward and forward linkages, thereby acting as pivotal drivers for other industries, include: In developing countries: Chemicals and Chemical Products; Basic Metals.
