Immediately after taking office, U.S. President Donald Trump made a series of policy decisions that raised concerns about their potential impact on the global economy, including Vietnam. The findings of this article indicate that the U.S. administration's current policy responses stem from multiple factors, ranging from President Donald Trump's personality and long-established policy perspectives to political objectives aimed at attracting American voters. These factors could lead to heightened trade war tensions, disruptions in global trade activities, and a slowdown in global GDP growth, posing various uncertainties and risks. Vietnam, as a country with significant trade relations with the U.S., is expected to experience both positive and negative economic impacts. Accordingly, the author recommends that the Vietnamese government proactively reduce its trade deficit with the U.S., strengthen negotiations and information exchanges with American counterparts, and develop proactive response strategies.
