Abstract

This study investigates the digital skills gap among workers in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Vietnam, particularly in the context of the ongoing Industry 4.0 revolution and digital transformation. The research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining surveys and in-depth interviews with 153 businesses located in major cities and economically developed provinces across Vietnam. The objective of this study is to identify and analyze the main challenges faced by workers in SMEs in Vietnam amidst the national digital transformation aimed at developing a digital economy and society. Based on the findings, the study provides recommendations to help SMEs overcome barriers in developing a skilled workforce, ultimately enhancing digital skills among the labor force in the digital era.
